Code of Practice Case Study: The Burren Smokehouse, Solar Panel Installation

The Burren Smokehouse and their Solar Panel installation is a perfect example of the Code of Practice Principle on Sustainable Environmental Management (Use of Resources).

This Code of Practice principle requires businesses to be “guided by their Environmental Policy and work to an Environmental Action Plan, which includes actions and targets for improvement that are reviewed annually.”

The Burren Smokehouse made a major investment in 2023 and installed Solar Panels that started generating electricity on the 23rd of August. They monitor daily contributions and have reduced costs and their energy consumption by 3,430 KWh in 3 of the autumn months so far. They aim to reduce their total electricity use from the grid by 30%.
